El Programa Venezolano de Educación-Acción en Derechos Humanos (Provea) presenta su 14° Boletín Internacional correspondiente al mes de enero de 2015. En esta ocasión abordamos como tópico global los resultados de la gestión del presidente Nicolás Maduro en materia de derechos sociales, con énfasis en el aumento de la pobreza registrado en 2013 y la regresividad en algunos avances sociales alcanzados durante la gestión del presidente fallecido Hugo Chávez.
En el tópico específico nos referimos a la reciente designación de Tarek William Saab como Defensor del Pueblo y los retos que tiene ante sí el ombudsman venezolano, en medio de un escenario de alta conflictividad social y amenazas para los derechos humanos.
Como tema coyuntural presentamos un balance de las protestas iniciadas en febrero de 2014, a la luz de los altos niveles de impunidad que existen para la mayoría de las víctimas de delitos o violaciones de derechos humanos ocurridas en el marco de las manifestaciones realizadas en Venezuela.

The Venezuelan Program of Education and Action on Human Rights (Provea) presents its fourteenth International Journal for the month of January 2015. In this issue we will address as a global topic, the results of the administration of President Nicolas Maduro on social rights, making emphasis on the increasing poverty recorded in 2013 and regression in some progress in the social field achieved during the administration of President Chavez.
As a specific topic, we will address the recent appointment of the Ombudsman and the challenges that the Venezuelan Ombudsman will be facing amid a scene of high social unrest and threats to human rights.
As a conjunctural topic we present a balance of the protests that began in February 2014, in the light of high impunity levels for most of the victims of crimes or human rights violations occurring in the context of demonstrations in Venezuela.
